POST #2 - JESUS' SERMON ON THE MOUNT: A New Normal

September 11, 2015:

This evening, as I end my day, overwhelmed with grief and compassion, I find myself...
  • feeling deeply for all those who continue to grieve their loved ones lost because of the 9/11/01 tragedies and are still struggling with this "new normal"...
  • feeling compassion for friends back in Jersey who were also profoundly affected by 9/11/01 and the "new normal" that affected so many in that region...
  • feeling compassion for friends (in Jersey, Alabama, Texas, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, and beyond) who have at least one member of your family with chronic health challenges that has caused you to go down the road of a very challenging "new normal"...
  • feeling compassion for all those parents / kindergarteners who have so reluctantly separated ways the last few days, as their little ones first year in school begins a "new normal"...
  • feeling grief and compassion, as I process coming home at the end of a very long first week of school and not sharing it with Jessica, for the first time in years - a "new normal".
Life is soooo hard, but GOD is soooo good!

Did you know that JESUS began HIS "Sermon on the Mount" with 9 ways to live "THE BLESSED LIFE"?  His words may not make complete sense now, but stick with me over the months to come and we'll dig deeply into what this "NEW NORMAL", for christian living, looks like.  We are not to live like the world, but to live this BLESSED LIFE.   Each of us is BLESSED, when we are...

  1. ...are poor in spirit.
  2. ...mourn.
  3. ...are meek.
  4. ...hunger and thirst for righteousness.
  5. ...are merciful.
  6. ...are pure in heart.
  7. ...are peacemakers
  8. ...are persecuted for righteousness.
  9. ...are insulted, persecuted, lied about, and rejoice anyway.
